Q: What is the actual function of the concentric copper layer (Ceander)?
UN: It serves a dual purpose. First, it acts as the conducteur PE ou PEN (Protective Earth/Neutral). Second, because it wraps around the cores, it provides effective screening against electromagnetic interference (EMC). This is crucial if you are running power near sensitive data lines or control systems.
Q: NYCY vs. NAYCY: Which one should I specify?
UN: It’s strictly a choice of main conductor material. NYCY is solid Copper (expensive, high conductivity). NAYCY uses Aluminum for the main phases (cheaper, lighter), but keeps the concentric screen in Copper. If budget is tight and the cable run is long, NAYCY is the standard engineering choice.
Q: What is the voltage rating?
UN: These are standard low-voltage cables rated for 0,6/1 kV. They are manufactured strictly to DIN VDE 0276-603 et CEI 60502-1 specifications.
Q: Can I use these underground?
UN: Oui. They are designed for fixed installation indoors, outdoors, in concrete, and directement sous terre. The concentric conductor actually adds a layer of safety—if someone accidentally digs into the cable, the tool hits the earth screen first, tripping the breaker before hitting a live phase.
Q: Why choose NYCY over standard NYY cables?
UN: Two words: EMC Protection. If you are powering VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) or equipment in a “noisy” electrical environment (like a data center or automated factory), standard NYY won’t stop the noise. NYCY keeps the interference contained.
Q: What are the temperature constraints?
UN: Keep in mind these are PVC insulated cables. Your maximum continuous operating temperature is 70°C. If you have a high-heat application or need to push maximum ampacity, you should look at N2XCY (the XLPE version) instead.
Q: Is installation difficult regarding bending radius?
UN: They are stiffer than standard cables due to the concentric layer and the helix tape. You need to respect a bending radius of at least 12x to 15x the cable diameter (single-core vs multi-core) to avoid damaging the copper screen during installation.
Q: How do I get a technical proposal or quote?
UN: Just email us your Cable Schedule. We need to know: Main conductor material (Cu or Al), cross-section (e.g., 4×95/50), and total length. We’ll verify the screen cross-section requirements and send you a formal quote ASAP.
