Product Description
UL1185 : Product Description and Specifications
The UL1185 shielded hook-up wire serves as a premier solution for low-voltage electronic equipment, audio systems, and recording devices. Specifically, its design incorporates a tinned copper conductor encased in PVC insulation. In addition, a high-coverage tinned copper braid actively provides superior EMI/RFI protection. Furthermore, this shielding ensures stable, low-noise signal transmission for automation systems. Consequently, the cable strictly complies with UL758 and CSA C22.2 No.210.2 standards. Ultimately, it functions perfectly for internal wiring applications rated at 300V.

Production Processes Of UL cable
JOCA produces UL wires using a fully automated workflow. The cycle synchronizes copper drawing and stranding with precise PVC or XLPE extrusion. Instead of waiting for post-production checks, we employ continuous inline monitoring—using laser diameter gauges and spark testers to catch defects instantly. For multi-core variants, the line handles cabling, shielding, and jacketing to exact specifications. Before shipping, every batch faces final electrical and mechanical inspections to verify full compliance with UL standards.
Packing For Shipment
To meet various transportation needs, there are many methods of packaging that can be used.
Have more questions?
Q: Why choose UL1185 over standard wire?
A: To kill the noise. Standard wire acts like an antenna, picking up static. UL1185 wraps the core in a Copper Shield (Spiral or Braid). If you are running audio or sensor signals, this shield is the only thing stopping interference “hum.”
Q: Can I use it for car audio?
A: Yes, for signals. It’s excellent for connecting head units to amps inside the cabin. But: Do not use it under the hood. It cannot handle engine heat or oil like automotive-grade TXL or GXL wires.
Q: Is it Outdoor safe?
A: No. UV light cooks standard PVC. It will turn brittle and crack. If you need to run shielded signals outside, you need a UV-resistant PE jacket, not this.
Q: Spiral Shield vs. Braid Shield: Which one?
A: UL1185 usually comes with a Spiral Shield.
Spiral: More flexible, easier to strip (just twist it off). Great for audio.
Braid: Tougher, harder to strip. Better for high-frequency interference.
Note: We can manufacture either upon request.
Q: Is it hard to strip/terminate?
A: Spiral is easy. Unlike braided shields that you have to “unpick” strand by strand, a spiral shield twists off in one motion. It speeds up hand-soldering significantly.
Q: Can I customize the Shield Density?
A: Yes. Standard is often ~85-90% coverage. If you work in a high-noise environment (near motors or transformers), ask us to upgrade to 95%+ coverage for better isolation.
Q: Voltage and Temp limits?
A: 300V / 80°C. It’s designed for signals, not high power. Don’t use it for mains power (110V/220V).
Q: Need custom specs (Color, AWG)?
A: Don’t guess. Hit the “Contact Us” button. Whether you need a specific jacket color to match your branding or a tighter shield pitch, tell us your specs and we’ll quote it.
