Frequently Asked Questions
If you want to know more about JOCA’s Overhead Bare Conductor
Q: What’s the practical difference between ACSR, AAC, and AAAC?
A: It’s a trade-off between strength and conductivity. AAC is pure aluminum—great conductivity but low strength, so it’s strictly for short spans. ACSR adds a steel core, giving you the tensile strength needed for long transmission spans but is heavier. AAAC is the modern middle ground: you get better corrosion resistance than ACSR and higher strength than AAC, making it ideal for coastal or polluted areas.
Q: Which standards do you manufacture to?
A: We base our production lines on IEC 61089 and ASTM B232 mostly. But depending on the destination, we also run to BS 215, DIN 48204, or AS 3607. Basically, if you have a specific grid code, we just need the spec sheet to match the tolerance.
Q: Do I need anti-corrosion grease for coastal lines?
A: For ACSR in coastal zones? Yes, absolutely. If you don’t grease the steel core, salt spray will kill it from the inside out. We apply Type A or Type B high-grade grease during stranding to seal the core gap. It’s a must-have for longevity in those environments.
Q: What’s the voltage range for these conductors?
A: They cover the full spectrum. We supply everything from MV distribution lines right up to 800kV EHV (Extra-High Voltage) transmission backbones. The conductor design just scales up with the voltage requirements.
Q: Can these handle long river or valley crossings?
A: Yes. This is where ACSR or AACSR really shines. Because of the steel reinforcement, they have minimal sag under high tension. We design specific high-strength strandings exactly for those wide river crossings where tower spacing is huge.
Q: Can you do custom stranding?
A: Sure. We often customize the lay direction or specific diameter to match existing infrastructure, especially for retrofitting or line upgrade projects where you need to match the old cables exactly.
Q: What do you need for a quote?
A: Just send us the Standard (like ASTM) and the specific Code Name (like “Drake”, “Hawk”, or “Wolf”). That tells us everything we need for the construction. If you have a custom spec, attach the datasheet and our engineering team will calculate the weight and price.
