Product Description
ACSR/AW Conductor : Product Description and Specifications
The ACSR/AW (Aluminum-Clad Steel Reinforced) series represents an advanced take on traditional reinforced conductors. By wrapping hard-drawn 1350-H19 aluminum wires around a specialized aluminum-clad steel core, we’ve eliminated the typical vulnerability of exposed steel. This design handles the heavy tension of overhead lines while significantly cutting down on power loss and total cable weight. Because the core is clad in aluminum rather than just galvanized, it offers a much longer service life and “bulletproof” corrosion resistance. It’s the superior choice for modern grids where long-term durability and electrical efficiency are the non-negotiable priorities.

Advantages
ACSR/AW Conductor : Benefits and Features
Total Corrosion Barrier: Aluminum-clad steel prevents bi-metallic corrosion—ideal for salt air and industrial zones.
High Strength-to-Weight: Aluminum cladding is lighter than zinc, allowing for significantly longer spans and less tower stress.
Low Energy Loss: High-purity cladding improves core conductivity, reducing resistive heating across the grid.
Decade-Plus Stability: Built for extreme environments with a permanent metallic bond that won’t peel or degrade.
Superior Sag Control: The reinforced core handles massive mechanical loads without the stretching issues of all-aluminum wires.
Lower O&M Costs: Drastically reduces maintenance cycles and long-term “per-kilometer” operational expenses.

Production Processes Of Overhead Bare Conductors
JOCA operates a digitalized production line specifically for manufacturing overhead bare conductors. The process flow starts with raw aluminum rod inspection, moving through high-speed wire drawing and precision stranding within a single, data-tracked environment. To prevent defects, we’ve integrated intelligent sensors that monitor the diameter and surface smoothness of every conductor layer in real-time. This automated setup utilizes laser measurement technology to enforce strict adherence to ASTM, IEC, and BS standards. By removing manual variability, the system ensures that every reel of AAC, AAAC, or ACSR maintains consistent tensile strength and stable electrical performance, even under extreme environmental exposure.
Packing For Shipment
To meet various transportation needs, there are many methods of packaging that can be used.
Have more questions?
Q: What exactly defines the ACSR/AW construction?
A: It’s an advanced version of reinforced conductors. We strand 1350-H19 aluminum over a core that is clad in aluminum—rather than galvanized. This creates a permanent metallic bond that blocks rust and reduces weight.
Q: Why choose aluminum-clad steel over traditional galvanized?
A: The main driver is corrosion life. Galvanized steel eventually rusts when the zinc wears off. Aluminum cladding is thicker and chemically identical to the outer wires, which prevents bi-metallic corrosion in coastal zones.
Q: Is there a significant weight difference?
A: Yes. Aluminum-clad steel has a lower density. This makes the entire cable lighter, which translates to less tension on your towers and better sag control over long spans.
Q: Which core strength grades are available?
A: We follow ASTM B549 specs. You can choose from AW1 (Normal), AW2 (Extra), or AW3 (High Strength). For most high-tension transmission projects, AW2 and AW3 are the industry standards.
Q: Where is this conductor the "best fit"?
A: Use it where reliability is non-negotiable—specifically coastal grids, industrial crossing, or ultra-long spans. It’s built for spots where standard ACSR would fail too early due to salt or chemical exposure.
Q: Does the AW core actually help with power loss?
A: Indirectly, yes. The aluminum layer on the core is more conductive than zinc. This slightly improves the overall electrical efficiency and keeps the conductor’s resistance stable over decades of service.
Q: How does it hold up in salt-spray environments?
A: It’s arguably the best reinforced conductor for marine areas. The aluminum-on-aluminum design means there’s no “sacrificial” layer to fail, so salt and humidity can’t get to the steel center.
Q: What about thermal stability at high temperatures?
A: ACSR/AW handles the 75°C to 90°C range without a sweat. The aluminum cladding maintains better mechanical bonding with the outer strands during thermal expansion than galvanized alternatives.
